Welcome to Glory Land Alpacas, just a step away from Heaven.
In the beginning, God created the Heavens and then he made Alpacas. Because he couldn’t make up his mind, he decided to make two kinds. One is like a fluffy ball resembling sheep called huacaya’s and the other has long locks of hair that drape down towards the ground called suri’s. Now both in his creation, he made perfect, but somewhere along the line, in either Peru, Bolivia, or Chili, where God set them upon the face of the earth, they did not know that they should not join together with the opposite kind. This is where they lived for thousands of years, in the Andean mountainous range of SouthAmerica. Then one day, North America caught onto the value of their fleece. The fiber which comes from these cute little critters is actually more durable and holds its shine better than cashmere, with amazing softness and fineness, that could be sold to industries which make fine suits, coats, and other desired fabrics that is only heavenly, and the value, well, the sky’s the limit.
Since North America started bringing in huacaya and suri alpacas into the country, they found that in breeding them with their same kind, every now and then the other kind would be born. So ‘breeding up the quality began’. AOBA voted and decided to close the doors, not allowing any more in, thus keeping diseases out and the quality to get better, and it has. The next thing North America needs to do, is to get the numbers up, allowing more fleece to go to the fiber industries, which will give birth to fine quality clothing like Italy makes with cashmere. Now here’s the big ticker, if numbers will drive up the value of these critters, as well as good breeding quality for the fiber, then anyone who decides to go into this business has a great opportunity to do well in buying, breeding, and selling. After going to a few shows and visiting a few farms, our first purchase of a quality pregnant female was made. She was bred with quality lineage and every breeding thereafter or any addition to our farm will be the best quality we can find. Then when it’s time for you to come and look at our Suri sales, against the competition, well you can decide for yourself. Be sure to check our farm journal regularly for current farm news and events.
